About

Hello, I’m Rebecca Evangelist I graduated from Five Towns College in the Fall of 2023, with a Bachelor in Science. I am currently looking for a career in Journalism. I’m a former writer for Five Towns College’s online newspaper The Record Online from the Spring of 2020 till I graduated in the Fall of 2023.

At Five Towns College, I studied Mass Communications and Audio Technology. Where I learned how to use Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and other Adobe apps in the Creative Cloud, as well as Pro Tools. Where I gained the skills of journalism, videography, photography, video editing, photo editing, audio editing, and broadcasting.

In high school, you wouldn’t take me for a journalist. But you would take me as someone aspiring to be an Audio Engineer. This is why while attending Harborfields High School I went to Western Suffolk BOCEs Wilson Tech in my Junior and Senior years. While attending Wilson Tech I learned skills in Audio/Radio Production. Skills such as audio editing, editing audio to video, creating stories with sound, creating MIDI tracks, music editing, and podcasting.

When it came time to go to college I set my eyes on Five Towns College to learn Audio Editing and hone my craft in that field, as my teacher at Wilson Tech raved about Five Towns College. While also picking the wrong major to go with the concentration. Long story short I eventually transferred within Five Towns College and picked Mass Communications as my major, while keeping Audio Technology as my concentration. And I would have no idea that I would fall in love with journalism and also become a writer at the same time. Seriously, Mass Communications (Journalism) was my only other choice at Five Towns College as I wasn’t a musician. And I walked into class that semester blind to any and all things video editing as I had never done that before. But I utilized my skills in advocacy and flagged down the class TA and the professor, to learn how to use Adobe Premiere Pro. What came as a shock to me is that Premiere Pro is very similar to Adobe Audition. So I learned Premiere Pro very quickly. And also mastered the quick keys in both Audition and Premiere Pro. Then fast forward a bit and I’d end up in another class where I’d become buddy-buddy with the professor, and end up getting a job working for the college online newspaper The Record Online. At the time I was mentored by a senior by the name of Jacob Billa. I shadowed him recording videos while also writing articles for The Record. Jacob taught me the skills to make my own videos for The Record; which I then shared with my coworker Jeff Kramer. Jacob graduated that semester and Jeff was the new kid on the job. Together Jeff and I would write many articles and make many videos for The Record Online.

Some of the articles that I have written for The Record Online are: Sister Act Opening Night, FTC Sneaker Ball, FTC Esports is Back. Game On!, FTC Students get an Inside Look at the Charles and Helen Reichert Planetarium / Observatory at the Vanderbilt Museum, and many more all located on the website The Record Online @ The Record curtesy of Five Towns College. Pro tip search my last name Evangelist and I’ll pop up on The Record Online website and its easier to find me.

And that’s all you need to know about me for now.
